The start of this academic year has been a busy one for the schools of Billingshurst and Horsham in Sussex (England), as 7billionideas launches its first competition with a charity.
Wherever you live, work or travel across the British Isles and Ireland, you are likely to come across members of Lions clubs and the projects they support. From Abbeyleix to Aberdeen, Yarm to Yeovil, they cover the points of the compass and letters of the alphabet. Lions are ordinary people who do extraordinary things to help others and support good causes. They have over 17,000 active members belonging to 900 local clubs throughout the British Isles and Ireland.
At the start of this year, the Lions of Billingshurst and Horsham approached us about working with 10 of their local primary schools to encourage the students to think big and we were a perfect match. Throughout September, the primary school students of 10 fantastic schools will be participating in one of our ‘World Changing IDEA Days’ and the winners from each school will be going through the first ever #thinkBIG2016 final at The Weald School in October.
Derek Reynolds from the Lions joined us for one of the days last week and said
“Students, teachers and the Lions loved the activity day last week. The children had a great time working in teams and creating their ideas in 3D. Students learnt how articulate and demonstrate their amazing ideas. I didn’t know what to expect on the day but it was a great hit.”
We shall look forward to making the rest of the competition a success and inspiring the students of Sussex to think big and dream big.
