#TyneTogether2018 sees 7billionideas and NTLT partner together for a 2nd successful year

At the start of this year, 7billionideas visited 26 primary schools on behalf of North Tyneside Learning Trust to launch the second year of our exciting ideas competition, #TyneTogether2018. The competition was designed to encourage students to generate, develop and then articulate their ideas which they feel could change the world – the winning idea would be turned into a short children’s book.  This week we had the conclusion of the final, hosted at Tyne Metropolitan College in Newcastle.

Schools travelled from across North Tyneside to show the judges the results of their amazing work. After some warm up challenges the primary school students then had some time to get their stalls before the judges spent a few minutes assessing each stall, seeing what the students had been inventing and working on.

After much deliberation, the judges awarded certificates to the following schools for best stall, model, presentation and poster, before announcing 3rd, 2nd and 1st place for the overall winner of #TyneTogether2018

- Best Stall: Redesdale Primary School

- Best Model: Monkhouse Primary School

- Best Poster: Ivy Road Primary School

- Best Presentation: Appletree Gardens First School

- 3rd Place: Balliol Primary School

- 2nd Place: Valley Gardens Middle School

- 1st Place: Hadrian Park Primary School

A huge done to Hadrian Park Primary School, who’s idea, The Superior Bed, wowed the judges. The Superior Bed is aimed at those people who are forever getting out of bed the wrong side and are grumpy. The bed would give massages, have an inbuilt music system, a drinks fridge, snacks and other features to ensure the user woke up in a fabulous mood every day. We can’t wait to work with the school and create a short book so this idea will never be forgotten.

David Harkin, CEO of 7billionideas said:

“It was a delight to be working with North Tyneside Learning Trust for a second year. The students blew us away with their ideas and the confident ways in which they presented these to the judges. Hadrian Park Primary School were deserved winners, who wouldn’t want to try their Superior Bed? We are already excited to see what 2019 will bring.”

A huge thank you must be said to our hosts for the day, our wonderful judges and of course North Tyneside Learning Trust who have helped made this competition possible. A big well done to every student that took in the competition and all the teachers who have helped make it a reality in their schools.
